The Fire Department that protects the
city of Arvada has been in operation since 1913. In present day,
there are eight fire-stations serving the community; two of
which achieved completion only recently. Fire Station #1 is
located on 57th street and offers the community
various services, as do all other fire-stations located
throughout Arvada. The various programs offered are designed to
help prevent fire and fire-related incidents, but also just as
calls vary in nature so now do their services. They provide a
training center for individuals to attend and learn exactly what
it takes and what it means to be a firefighter. They also have a
program for any youth in danger or in potential of being in
danger of being a fire-starter or a "pyro"- which is an
extremely dangerous element to harbor within your child.
Citizen Training Academy
The Citizen Training Academy is on 6651
Indiana Street in Arvada. If you decide to attend the training
center, you’ll obtain the ability to recognize a choking victim
and perform CPR on them if the situation deteriorates to that
point. Acquire essential knowledge like how to properly remove a
victim who is trapped in their car. Do you know how to maneuver
your way through a smoke-filled house in search for a victim?
Can you extinguish a blaze? The Citizen Training Academy is an
excellent place for you to explore the life of a firefighter
first-hand.
The classes are from 8am to 5pm and
whoever attends is also provided with lunch. The opportunity to
participate in activities but will not be required to
participate if they do not feel comfortable. People who decide
to attend will also learn more about services that the fire
department offers. People who graduate from the citizen’s
academy have much greater appreciations for the firefighters and
their selflessness, along with the skill it takes to perform
their duties. You need a medical release and a signed letter
stating you understand the potential dangers of the academy;
after those brief technicalities, you’re set to go.
Juvenile Fire-setter Program
For some juveniles curiosity breeds a
perfect condition for experimenting with fire. Further than that
some children just develop a mentality for playing with fire.
The Arvada Fire Department has a program in place that
identifies the risk levels for involvement in the starting of
future fires and the likelihood of intentional fire setting in
youth. The firemen, in addition to identifying at-risk youth and
families, also reduce arson and juvenile-related arson and "fireplay"
in Arvada.
Indicators of immediate and dangerous
fire-setting habits are characterized by a recent change in
behavior, learning problems, the observed collection of
fire-materials, failed reaction to "help" in a fire incident,
extreme curiosity about fire, poor self esteem and daydreams
about fires are just a few. Children who engage in the setting
of fires are highly likely to be involved in a fire-related
murder or fire residential or business-related arson. You can
contact the Arvada Fire Department or your local fire department
for more information.
