Biking In Arvada

The city of Arvada in Colorado is a great place to ride a bicycle. Whether a person wants to ride a bike for exercise, for recreation, or to commute to work, Denver, or beyond, they will find that Arvada’s bike trail network is wonderful and can take them to wherever they wish to go.

One of the most popular bike trails in Arvada is the Ralston Creek Trail. The Ralston Creek Trail begins in the spot that Lewis Ralston first found gold in Arvada back in 1850. This spot is located at an Arvada park, at 58th Avenue and Sheridan Boulevard. From the park, the trail heads northwest, winding near to historic Olde Town Arvada. After passing through Olde Town Arvada, the trail passes through some residential neighborhoods. Eventually, the trail hits the Arvada reservoir and the surrounding subdivisions. The trail ends when it hits Colorado 93. If going west from Arvada, the trail is uphill but the grade is pretty gentle.

The second largest trail in Arvada is the Little Dry Creek Trail. The trail starts at Sheridan Boulevard and follows the creek upstream. The trail heads west through Arvada, passing Thompson Elementary school. As the trail continues through Arvada, it passes through many parks including Little Dry Creek Park, Meadowglen Park, Woodrun Park, MacArhur Park, Lakecrest Park, and Michael Northey Park. Beyond the parks the trail passes through Excel Academy and then continues west to Indiana Street. This trail sometimes requires the rider to ride on some streets within Arvada.

The Fairmount Trail is one of Jefferson County Open Space’s trails. It starts at the Arvada Reservoir at the south edge of 64th Avenue. The trail follows the Denver Water Boards irrigation canal. The trail goes through Arvada’s Long Lake Ranch Regional Park, winding past the historic Churches Ranch. From the Ranch, the trail heads south through Arvada to Easley road. Since this trails has a soft surface, mountain bikes are the only suitable bike for the trail.

Arvada’s Rainbow Trail starts at 81st Place and Yarrow street in Rainbow Three Park. From the park, the trail heads west through Arvada, passing through Rainbow Two Park. The trail continues westward, going by Weber Elementary School. From the school, the trail continues to the Arvada Volunteer Firefighters Park, located at 84th and Garrison Street. This trail is paved, and passes through many of Arvada’s neighborhoods.

In addition to trails, Arvada also has many bike lanes on major streets so that bikers can safely commute throughout the city and beyond. Even where there are no bike lanes, bikers are allowed to ride on the road. Many people travel by bike in Arvada, so cars are used to looking out for people on bikes and are generally very courteous.

Arvada’s Van Bibber Trail is divided into three different lengths of trail. The trail starts on Oak Street, just south of 58th Avenue. The trail goes through the Stenger Sports Complex and Skyline Estates Park to Ward Road. From here, the trail goes west through Arvada to Van Bibber Open Space Park and Indiana Street. Between Indiana Street and Quaker Street, the trail mostly disappears, showing up in only short segments in Meadowbrook Village Park. At Quaker Street and Church Ditch, the trail picks back up, following 60th Avenue through Arvada until it hits Van Bibber Creek again. The trail then follows the creek past Arvada’s historic Churches Ranch. From Churches Ranch the trail goes through Long Lake Ranch Regional Park and beyond, ending at Apple Meadows Park.

There are many stores in Arvada that cater to cyclists. The Arvada Biking Company is located at  6595 Wadsworth Boulevard, not far from Olde Town Arvada. The Arvada Biking Company offers many services, including rentals, repairs, new and used parts and accessories. There are many brands of bikes and parts available at the Arvada Biking Company, including Campagnolo, Cannondale, Continental, Diamondback, Giro, Mavic, Mondonico, Raleigh, Shimano, Torelli, and Triumph. The Arvada Biking Company accepts cash and major credit cards.Another good bike shop in Arvada is Foothills Cycling. Foothills Cycling is located at 11651 W 64th Ave  in Suite D1.

Because of its many bike trails and bike lanes, Arvada is a great place to ride a bike.
