Summer Festivals and Activities
Arvada residents love
the summers and the festivals and events that come with the
season and find themselves running into people who have traveled
from out of town to enjoy the festivities quite often! Whether
celebrating the trails, the gold rush or the sheer excitement of
the summer season there is sure to be an event for you in Arvada
during the summer or winter seasons. Arvada’s rich history
provides the perfect background to explore the many festivals
that take place annually.
Are you interested in
learning more about the gold strike? The gold strike festival
occurs in June each year and celebrates the old towne of Arvada
with the memories of the first gold strike. Full of food,
historic activities and information, music and fun events for
children this year it occurs on the twentieth and twenty-first
of June. There are the epic local arts and craft sales as well
as many other souvenirs. Embedded right between Yukon Street and
Wadsworth bypass the festival brings you to the heart of the
Arvada.
The annual
celebration of the trails encourages residents to literally hit
the trails! Locals know the value of these trails scattered
throughout the area and know their favorites for running, hiking
or just enjoying the scenery. There is an annual photography
contest as well as guided walking and bicycle tours. The trail
system is breathtaking in Arvada and this is the perfect time
for new residents to discover their favorite trail. This event
happens each summer and more information can be obtained by
visiting Majestic Parks Nature Center at 7030 Garrison Street.
Each year during the
blistering months of winter, locals come together to celebrate
the value of chocolate with tasting, treasure hunts and horse
drawn carriage rides. The chocolate festival has been voted the
most romantic festival of the year and conveniently falls close
to Valentine’s Day and displays huge valentines hung from the
lamp posts of old Arvada. It is produced in conjunction with the
old town Arvada association.
For the past
six-years, residents of Arvada have been able to enjoy the kite
festival. It occurs each April, which is National Kite Month and
is hosted by the area’s kite club: Foothills Kite Club. It is
the perfect time to come learn to fly a kite or to enjoy the sky
filled with these wonderfully enthralling flying devices.
Refreshments are served with the festivals and often you can
find a place to purchase a kite. This festival is very
child-friendly – enthusiasts are often available to teach kite
handling.
In the fall, Arvada
residents have the choice between the Arvada Scarecrow Festival
or the Arvada Harvest Festival. Both occur prior to Halloween
and are often accompanied with their share of Haunted Houses or
visits to the pumpkin patch. Celebrate fall, the harvest and the
prosperity of the area with a trip to the farm on one of these
weekends for traditional farm fare, hay rides and a touch of
rural Arvada. Again, a very child-friendly environment and
children are encouraged to dress for Halloween as “best costume”
contests occur throughout the festivities.
Colorado has a vast
selection of wines and is demonstrated by the annual local wine
tasting – right before the Christmas holidays. It is a great
opportunity for hosts to discover that perfect local wine to
serve to guests and discover a new favorite. The events vary
from year to year but there is one event that withstands the
silent auction. Discover local fare and activities at a fraction
of the cost. Silent auctions are a great way to get involved in
a charity; residents are never disappointed with the selection
of items. As well as the tasting, there are often information
sessions that teach the aspects of tasting wine. Anyone can be a
connoisseur after this class!
From pumpkins to
chocolates there are festivals for everyone in Arvada. Events
are easy to find on local websites and in the newspaper. Arvada
is one of the most child-friendly areas to live in Denver as
well as one of the most historic. It is the perfect opportunity
to have fun with your children while learning small aspects of
history and culture. Your family will enjoy the festivals and
events that come all year round in Arvada, we certainly do! |
